Joining in a luau is one way to enjoy your vacation in Hawaii. A luau is a feast where there are lots of food and entertainment available. If you are having a vacation in Hawaii then I recommend joining in at least one luau to complete your vacation.

Whichever island you end up spending your vacation in, there is always a luau to greet you. In a typical Hawaiian luau, the food is prepared very early in the morning. The main dish is of course the delicious roasted pig that is cooked using the “imu” way. In this process, a hole is dug on the sand and logs are placed in it topped with rocks. A fire is then started which usually lasts for several hours. After which, the hot rocks are evened out then topped with banana leaves. The pig is then placed on top of this bed of hot rocks to be roasted.

Other delicious foods served in a luau are chicken, poi, rice, fish and lots of native Hawaiian food. Drinks being served are Mai Tais and other tropical drinks. Children are also served fruit punches and soft drinks.

The fun starts during sunset when the luau starts. Usually these parties are held in estates adjacent to beaches so that the setting of the sun would make an excellent backdrop of the party. Be adventurous and try the different food prepared in this party. The party ends after about three hours, that’s when you have the feeling of a real tropical experience.
